Product Philosophy
We respect nature and strive to use natural ingredients. Many ingredients derived from fruits, flowers and plants are used in our formulations and our designs combine functionality with simplicity, elegance and respect for materials and resources.
Animal-friendly products

Oriflame is proud of its longstanding pro-active animal welfare policy, and only “animal friendly” ingredients are used in our cosmetic formulations.
No ingredients derived from dead animals, or sourced while causing harm to animals, are used. Only animal by-products such as milk, honey, lanolin and beeswax, which are sourced without causing suffering or harm to animals, are used.
Furthermore, accessory products do not contain animal materials sourced while causing harm to the animal, such as skin, fur or feathers of animals bred primarily for that purpose (e.g mink, rabbit, snake). In addition, animal hair used is sourced from a live animal without causing injury.Oriflame finished products have never been tested on animals, and we have never tested, nor commissioned the testing of, cosmetic ingredients on animals.We have consistently demonstrated our support of the resolution of the ban on animal testing for cosmetic products and ingredients. We have welcomed the provisions in the EU Cosmetic Directive 7th amendment which regulate animal testing, while providing a balance between animal welfare and consumer safety. This has resulted in the current ban on animal testing of finished products, and the phased in ban on testing of ingredients, starting in March 2009.Oriflame has fully endorsed research programmes developing alternative non–animal safety tests, and we are glad to see a resolution of this important social issue.All of our suppliers agree to comply with our ethical and environmental policies, and abide by animal protection laws.
Environmental sustainabilityWhen formulating our products, we strive to use natural ingredients that are in line with our strong environmental policies, and are not harmful to the environment. For example, the main cleansing agents used in shampoos and shower gels are biodegradable.We are one of the first companies to utilise plant extracts in skin care products, and we have always tried to optimise the use of ingredients from renewable plant sources.Scientific reports on safety and environmental issues are continuously monitored to ensure that action can be taken to replace any ingredients that may have negative impact on consumer health and the environment.
In addition, Oriflame’s product packaging is recyclable and minimised to reduce waste volumes.Oriflame has a strong ethical ethos evident through all facets of operations. Oriflame products are formulated and manufactured in line with high industry standards and ethical guidelines. We currently operate five cosmetic manufacturing plants- in Poland, Sweden, India, China and Russia. All Oriflame manufacturing facilities and sub contractors comply with relevant local and national laws and regulations. Such laws include those relating to labour standards, environmental manufacturing,
and health and safety practices.Water conservation is a key priority in Oriflame’s environmental management plan, and in line with our proactive approach towards responsible environmental management, we apply design techniques at all of our manufacturing facilities, aimed at reducing water consumption and minimising pollution.
Oriflame takes strong stance on important social and ethical issues such as child labour, ethnic beliefs and culture. We are also committed to help children at risk and to provide education for young women through our social cause programs
Research & DevelopmentOriflame has over 40 years experience in producing beauty products, combining the best natural ingredients with the latest scientific research. Our accumulated knowledge and experience has been gathered into one dedicated Research & Development team which is in two locations, Dublin, Ireland and Stockholm, Sweden.
All together, our Research & Development function employs over a hundred scientists and technical experts, covering many scientific disciplines including formulation science, skin research, clinical testing, process development, packaging technology, microbiology, toxicology, environmental science, patent support, and global regulatory affairs.

In Dublin, the focus is on product development. Our experts develop and clinically test high performance formulations, while providing technical support in the areas of regulatory affairs, product safety and industrialisation. These projects are short to medium term (1 to 3 years), delivering technology and innovative new products into the skin care, colour, fragrance and personal care categories.
In Stockholm, our experts work on skin research projects aimed at generating Oriflame’s next unique technologies primarily for our high value skin care category. These projects are at a cellular/biological level, and are longer term (3 to 7 years).
Skin CareSkin Care is our core category as it helps to generate loyal customers who value our expertise and technological achievements. Oriflame Skin Care brands are targeting consumers of various age groups and price expectations.We are building a consistent skin care routine inviting our customers to look after their skin from the very first steps of cleansing to a special anti-ageing routine.One can find easy-to-use skin care products for essential and everyday face care.
